These webinars were done in an effort to engage Iowa teachers in the work of explicit instruction with Anita Archer. Watch these as you please, use them as topic in a PLC or for a whole staff.

Webinar #1 In this webinar she covers Phonological Awareness, including Phonemic Awareness. She gives an overview of what this pertains to and demonstrates how to use Explicit Instruction routines for teaching PA and Phonemic Awareness.

Webinar #2 Explicit Instruction - Decoding

Webinar #3  Multisyllabic Word Decoding, Decodable Text and Fluency (accuracy, rate, expression). She describes how each are part of the Iowa Core Standards, why they are important in reading acquisition and demonstrates Explicit Instruction routines for each.

Webinar #4 Effective and Efficient Teaching of Vocabulary

Webinar #5 This webinar is focused on teaching comprehension. Dr. Archer models the types of questions and comprehension strategies teachers can use to support reading comprehension aligned to the Iowa Core Curriculum.

Orton-Gillingham in the Classroom will be offered for 3 graduate or recertification credits. The dates of attendance are June 11-13 & June 28-29 from 9:00-3:00. Five additional evenings will be scheduled as a group and will be held from 5:00-8:30 pm beginning September - November. Participants will participate in at least 1 follow-up coaching/observation sessions as well. Participants will learn: background knowledge on why students have difficulty learning to read, recent brain research on how the brain masters reading, what students need to learn to be successful readers and how to deliver and engage the learner in successful phonetic acquisition. Participants will work with students during the practicum portion of the course, applying knowledge acquired during the classroom sessions. The course specifically addresses the Foundational Skills (K-5) of The Iowa Core. There are no prerequisites for this course.  REGISTER

This is a 1-day reboot and refresher of the Orton Gillingham approach. Those who have taken OG in the Classroom in the past are welcome to attend to participate in an overview of the approach, lesson planning, resources, and Q&A.
